Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at kelsey@meadowlarktherapeuticmassage.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is a gentle touch modality that blends the ideas of craniosacral therapy and myofascial therapy. It works between the craniosacral system (the brain, sacrum, and spinal cord) and the fascial system (the interconnected web of connective tissue that is everywhere in our bodies) to reduce fascial strain and adhesions. Fascial strain comes from stress and traumas, everything from in-utero positioning, to car accidents, to surgery. Releasing the fascia to move freely reduces pain and enhances mobility.

CFT is often called the "missing piece." When you aren't sure where else to turn for yourself or a child that is dealing with a condition that has thus far not been treated satisfactorily, CFT might be just what you need!

As soon as they are born! Because it is a gentle touch modality, and it works with the body, no age is too young. In fact, starting sooner can be beneficial as the fascial system hasn't yet begun to develop patterns based on it's trauma, such as a difficult birth.

Any condition that has a fascial component may be improved or resolved with CFT work. This list includes:

For infants:

  • Poor sleep
  • Torticollis
  • Birth trauma
  • Reflux
  • Colic
  • Inability to latch
  • Difficulty sucking
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Tethered oral ties
  • Constipation
  • Indigestion/gas
  • Asymmetrical head shape
  • Earache
  • Asymmetrical crawling patterns
  • Strabismus
  • Stridor/ Noisy breathing

For children:

  • Asthma
  • Earache
  • Concussion
  • ADHD/ADD
  • Learning disorders
  • Sinus conditions
  • Anxiety
  • Autism
  • Mouth breathing
  • Bedwetting
  • Headache
  • Scoliosis

And for adults:

  • Migraine
  • Concussion
  • TMJ
  • Pain
  • Range of motion
  • Hip pain
  • Sinus conditions
  • Airway
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Pelvic pain
  • Whiplash
  • Scars

Absolutely not! Although most of the advanced training we have done is in the realm of prenatal and postnatal massage, we are happy to help out people that do not fall into those categories.

Anytime! If you have heard that you can't get a massage during your first trimester or once your EDD is approaching or has past, that simply isn't true. We are trained in helping moms at all stages of pregnancy and throught the postpartum period as well.

Yes! This is a service that we added in order to make it easier for postpartum moms to prioritize their recovery during the first month after labor. We strongly believe in the power of rest during the fourth trimester so we wanted to be able to bridge the gap between getting rest and reaping the physical and mental benefits of a postpartum massage. The only exception to this is expecting moms that are on bed rest.

We prefer that moms establish care with us during their pregnancy before we go to their home for a postpartum massage in order to help the at-home visit feel as comfortable as possible for the new mom, but if care was not established during pregnancy, we will allow new moms and moms on bed rest to book this service by calling us to schedule the massage.

The base rate is $200 for a 90 minute massage. The reason this is more than our general 90 minute massage is because of the additional time it requires on our end to provide this service. If you live within 5 miles of our office, $200 will be your final price. If you live outside of the 5 mile radius, the cost will increase to reflect our travel time. For every additional 5 miles that we would travel, it will increase your final cost by $10.

Our number one recommendation would be to schedule an at-home postpartum massage within the first week of giving birth. This will help you continue to give your body the rest it needs while also benefitting from postpartum massage. If you'd rather opt of our in-office option, we recommend coming in as soon as you feel comfortable leaving your baby with a loved one for the length of time of a massage. Bleeding or leaking are not concerns for postpartum massage.

If you had a caesarean delivery, the same applies.  The only additional factor is that the incision is healing without any infection.

The biggest difference between a typical massage and a prenatal massage is positioning. We have body cushions that allow you to lay facedown on the table throughout your pregnancy with your belly fully supported, and a bolster that allows you to lay in a semi-reclined position so that the baby is not pressing on the abdominal aorta and reducing blood flow to you and the baby when you are laying on your back. The other difference that you may notice is that we will not do deep tissue work on your legs because pregnant women are at an elevated risk of blood clots.

There are a lot of factors that go into answering this question individually, but here are some general guidelines:

Prenatal: as often as you go see your doctor for a prenatal checkup. So, weeks 4-28: once a month. Weeks 28-36: once every other week. Weeks 36- delivery: once a week.

Postpartum: 1 massage in the first week after delivery, and then once every other week for 12 weeks, or about the length of a fourth trimester.

Of course, if you are feeling absolutely amazing, you may not feel the need to come in as often (although we do still recommend some visits to stay on top of feeling good and taking care of yourself!) and if you're experiencing lots of stress, pain, soreness, fatigue, ect. it may be beneficial to make more frequent appointments.
